National Career Development Guidelines

The National Career Development Guidelines represent a major nationwide effort to foster career development at all levels:  elementary, middle, high school, and adult. They are a competency-based approach to career development that helps states, schools, colleges and universities, and human service agencies to plan quality career guidance and counseling programs. These guidelines have been revised and are located on the America's Career Resource Network Association's website.  Activities are also being developed to meet indicators either in classroom instruction or in a guidance program.

The National Career Development Guidelines have been crosswalked with the America’s School Counselors National Standards.  This crosswalk is available in the Smart Choices Program Manual.  Smart Choices represents a collaborative effort between Technology/Career Education and Guidance and Counseling in the early 90s.  The project resulted in Georgia’s Comprehensive Career Guidance and Counseling Program Manual and Activities.
