Suggested Materials, Resources, and Programs

Career centers at the middle and high school provide career-related resources and materials for students, parents, staff, and community.  The career center should be organized around major types of information and users should be able to access printed or Web-based information quickly and easily. The links to Web sites listed below focus on materials and resources that students, staff, and parents can use to explore and investigate selected career fields or specific occupations.

GDOE suggests the following ways that these Web sites and their information can be used to supply materials and resources for a career center:

  • A list of beneficial Web sites could be printed or put onto disks then placed in the career center as a “take one” items for parents and students

  • Printed information from the Web site can be used for distribution, “take one” items, filed information, and/or bulletin board information

  • PowerPoints can be connected from a laptop to the TV and set to loop during a selected period of time that students/parents frequent the career center, counseling center, PTS, parent conference, or front office

  • PowerPoints can be used by instructors (Teachers as Advisors) or counselors with parents and/or students

  • Free or inexpensive materials can be ordered for use in the career center
