College Answer
A Web site that assists students and parents in understanding the financial aid process, as well as actually comparing award offerings from different schools. This site also includes a scholarship search engine with more than 4,000 entries. This offers counselors/career centers tools and information to counsel college-bound students with accurate school costs, test prep, planning and paying for college information, calendar events, checklists… and more. Some of these tools and resources can be ordered and/or downloaded in multiple supplies at no cost.

Educaid
This is a great site for pulling information that one can use quickly and easily. Access “guidance counselors” in the lower left column. One will find: Financial Aid Event Planning, power points, information for "Helping Students Pick a College," "Writing Great Recommendation Letters," and other free materials.

Federal Student Aid
The federal government offers this site for assistance in the financial aid process as well as publications for use in the financial aid section of a career center such as “The Student Guide” and “Funding Your Education.” For elementary students, this site offers in downloadable form, “Think College Early.”

Federal Student Aid - Publications
This site lists numerous federal publications and brochures that can be used in a career center. Many items can be duplicated and used as “take one” items or used for financial aid bulletin boards or financial aid workshops during the junior year or early fall of the senior year. All information is available in Spanish.

Georgia Postsecondary School Directory
GSFC offers to schools copies of the Georgia Postsecondary School Directory which lists the 103 institutions in Georgia that are eligible for the HOPE Program and other state-funded financial aid.

National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA)
The National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators (NASFAA) has developed materials for financial aid administrators, high school counselors, and other interested persons to use when conducting financial aid night presentations. These materials include: Guide to Planning and Conducting a Financial Aid Night, Financing Education Beyond High School PowerPoint slide show and script, and handouts to help students and parents through the financial aid process.

Paying for Postsecondary Education
This is an adaptation of a PowerPoint from Educaid.com. It can be used in the junior year to introduce students and parents to the financial aid process. GDOE, Career/Technology Education, adapted the information to a lower level of expertise and included the Georgia HOPE information. Students and parents appreciate the opportunity to learn about this process prior to January 1 of the senior year. It is recommended that the presenter include a package of information that parents and students can take from the workshop. This PowerPoint is part of the Georgia Career Development Program delivered through a teacher-as-advisor program.

The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Student Aid (FAFSA) is the document that will enable students to receive HOPE as well as any other type of federal and/or state aid. These forms usually are delivered to the school in December. Seniors cannot begin the process until after January 1 of their senior year.
