Web Resources for Self-Knowledge:  Who am I?

Career assessment is a vital part of the career planning process.  Students need opportunities to learn about themselves through programmatic and developmental activities throughout their educational career.  These activities provide students the opportunity to narrow or increase their career choices to those that suit them best based on the assessment outcomes; and will enable students to make better choices regarding the classes and programs offered at the high school level.

GDOE recommends that students take GCIS Occupation Sort in the 6th grade and revisit it in the 9th grade, GCIS O*NET Interest Profiler in the 8th grade, GCIS O*NET Work Importance Locator in the 10th grade, and ASVAB (Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery) in the 11th grade.  School systems may choose to offer other assessment at other intervals such as the Differential Aptitude Test (DAT), COPS, CDM or GCIS SKILLS.  GCIS offers career assessment links that students can use to follow up on career assessment scores.

This can be delivered as part of a teachers-as-advisors program (TAP) or in individual classrooms delivered by classroom instructors. These activities are recommended for 10th, 11th, or 12th grade students. Flyers are available regarding the ASVAB.
