Career Week and Career Month

The National Career Development Association recognizes November as National Career Development Month.  Each year, NCDA offers a poetry and poster contest for students (Click here to see the winners).

Suggested Career Month Activities:

a.  Career Fair organized by the 11 Career Clusters recognized by GDOE

b.  NCDA poetry and poster contest

c.  Careers on Wheels for Middle Schools

d.  Nontraditional Careers Fairs

e.  "Dress for the Future"

f.  Student tri-fold presentation of selected careers

Suggested Career Week Activities:

 a.  Highlight a different career in each academic class that is related to that academic area (i.e. Journalism in Language Arts, Actuary Science in Math, Veterinarian in Science).

b.  Every bulletin board should reflect some career concept:  postsecondary options, LMI, work-based learning opportunities, career clusters, relationship between education and the world of work, etc.

c.  Invite career-related speakers in academic classes.

d.  Provide opportunities for student to tour near-by business/industry, drawing attention to the career cluster-related occupations.

e.  Provide opportunities for students to tour area colleges OR invite representatives from postsecondary schools to speak or present a program on postsecondary options.
